Judah HaNasi:
“I learned much from my teachers, more from my colleagues and most from my students.”
- Babylonian Talmud Ta’anit 7a

Under the leadership of Roland Roth, CBS Director of Education and Programming, our Hebrew School is now a Model II and Model V "Framework for Excellence” Congregational School as set forth by the United Synagogue for Conservative Judaism!

To read more about these Frameworks, click here. We are the first synagogue school in Delaware to have such distinction! Mazal tov to our entire teaching staff, parent community, and especially our children for working so hard to achieve such honor!

Our 2005-2006 school year was a great success with enrollment more than doubling and in 2006-2007 school year we reached over ninety enrolled children! This is tremendous growth from our twenty enrolled at the beginning of last year.

How does it happen? How do we do it? Why bring your children under our roof?

It’s relatively simple. Through positive, engaging, dynamic and comprehensive approach, we have the Future of our People personifying our rich traditions, language, and culture. We hire teachers that emulate a passion for our faith, culture, language, and history and welcome new families and children with open arms. We think about how we would want to learn if we were children in our school and then we make it as close to that as possible!

Hebrew School (Grade Pre-K through 6th grade) and Prozdor (7th/8th, in conjunction with Delaware Gratz)

Like the Conservative Movement’s Educational leadership models, we too wish to create the foundation for life-long Jewish learning and living. We believe that a good synagogue school education should and can be a major influence in forming what a Jewish teenager knows (knowledge), knows how to do (skills), and wants to do (attitudes and proclivities). It requires a sufficient amount of time to form the foundation for future Jewish living, study and growth. The school program will best impact on these if it integrates elements of informal education and systematically engages in family education. The program needs to start early and continue through adolescence.

Opportunities to Connect for Youth in Grade 6th through 12th

We want all our Future to continue their formal Jewish education through high school and to be members of USY as well as to continue their Jewish education at Gratz Hebrew High School. Here in Wilmington, Delaware there is an active and strong BBYO chapter and we encourage our youth to become active in this great social group. We NOW HAVE a Kadima chapter here at Beth Shalom (the Junior High version of USY). Our Chapter had very successful events in 2006-2007 under co-advisors Kayli Spialter and Rachel Marcus. Adolescence is a period of growth in the capacity to conceptualize and a time for dealing personally with one's identity. It is therefore important that Jewish education continue during these years and be ongoing, so that the teen can develop a more mature perception of and commitment to Judaism, the foundation for which is only laid in the elementary grades.
