Roland Roth grew up mostly in San Jose, California. He received his Bachelor's in Child Development from San Jose State University before moving to New York City to work for the American Red Cross. In addition to teaching at two public schools in NYC, he studied at the Davidson School of Jewish Education at the Jewish Theological Seminary, concentrating in Synagogue Education and Administration.
Prior to coming to Beth Shalom, Roland was the Director of Education at Congregation Beth Shalom in Seattle, WA, from 2003-2005. He organized and coordinated family education programs and curriculum development, supervised the Youth Department and the Shabbat morning Junior Congregation program, and worked with the Program Director on synagogue-wide educational programs. Roland also worked with the B'nai Mitzvah Coordinator on implementing the schedule and program for children two years before their Bar/Bat Mitzvah.
Roland is an Eagle Scout, and has been a Big Brother with the Jewish Big Brothers and Big Sisters of New York. Roland is an avid bicyclist, and has ridden in several long distance events in order to raise money for various charities.
