Shalom From Our Hebrew School!

July 2011

Dear New and Returning Families,

Shalom from the growing, bustling, and active Hebrew School here at Congregation Beth Shalom! Enclosed is our registration packet for the 5772/2011-2012 school year. If you are here virtually "shul shopping", welcome!

If you are here to complete the registration forms please download them, print them out, and mail them back to CBS as soon as possible to assist us with planning for the school year. Our goal this and every year is to give each and every child a positive, comprehensive, engaging Jewish educational experience!

Please fill out the forms completely and accurately. We want to provide a rich, meaningful Jewish experience for you and your family... the more we know about your family the better we can plan for the upcoming year.

These forms tell us who you are enrolling, help us learn more about your family, and let us know how you'd like to help! Please complete all forms that are applicable to you and attach your check made payable to Congregation Beth Shalom. Please note that tuition fees are not refundable or transferable. For scholarship inquiries contact Merrill Dorph, CBS Executive Director, at 654-4462 or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. . No child or family will be turned away because of financial need.

The goal of the Congregation Beth Shalom Hebrew School is to help each child find sources of significance and enrichment in Jewish living.  We do this by:

  • Teaching our children to be participating members in constantly widening circles of Judaism – the Jewish home, the Jewish community, Israel, and the Jewish world, and to integrate this participation with their membership in the community.
  • Teaching our children Jewish history and literature, including the Bible, Talmud, Midrash, and other sources, as they contribute to each child’s strength as Jews.
  • Teaching each child that Hebrew is the language of the Jewish People, encouraging them to develop a relationship with Hebrew through the reading, writing, and speaking of this language.
  • Developing comfort with and understanding of tefillot (prayers), and Torah, including the participation  and leading of youth and adult services.
  • Having our children become menshe-like, including incorporating values such as derech eretz (manners), tikkun olam (repair of the world), and ba’al tashhit (care of the environment).
  • Affording our children the experience of a congregation through participation in Junior Congregation and adult services; music; the observance of holidays and other Jewish occasions, and the practice of Tzedakah (charity).
  • Strengthening the Judaic knowledge, skills, and experiences of our children and our families and ultimately to positively effect the Jewish identity of all who come to us.

Our returning and new teachers are committed to making Jewish Education this year and in future years as meaningful and rewarding for each child and each family as possible.

If you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact me at your convenience..
Shalom,

Morah Dina Lipschultz
Education Director
