Categories of Membership at Beth Shalom

A. Basic: Individuals or families wishing to join with full membership privileges.

  • Single – one Jewish adult living in the home, no children.
  • Household – two or more Jewish persons in the home. May or may not include children.
  • Young Adult – individuals or couples under 35 years old, with no children, in the early years of their career, based on the age of the older partner.

B. Contributory: Individuals or families wishing to join with full membership privileges, contributing dues above the basic level. Additional recognition may apply.

C. Associate: Individuals or families who wish to join who are already members of another synagogue. A “letter of good standing” from primary synagogue must accompany membership commitment.

  • Single – one Jewish adult living in the home, no children.
  • Household – two or more Jewish persons in the home. May or may not include children.

D. Out-of-Region: Individuals or families of whose legal residence is greater than 50 miles from Congregation Beth Shalom.


There is a new member assessment fee for basic and contributory members, payable over five years. This fee is $500 per household ($100 per year). Young adults are exempt from this fee.
