Keruv
Hazak

Many congregants have asked members of the Keruv committee just what Keruv means. Keruv (the Hebrew word means literally “bring closer”) is an outreach movement designed to bring congregants and prospective congregants with non-Jewish spouses or relatives into closer community with the congregation.

The Keruv committee at Congregation Beth Shalom has defined three leading goals: networking, fellowship, and support. We have been developing networking resources within the congregation for members who’d like to talk with other members privately about matters like celebrating holidays, participating in rituals, and educating children in Judaism. We have embarked on a schedule of fellowship opportunities like our October pot-luck dinner and our December Havdalah service to welcome congregants and families with similar interests. And we offer support to members who wish to meet as a group to discuss problems like the December dilemma, as several congregants did at the congregation’s Hanukah celebration on December 28.

The success of our Keruv initiative depends on its responsiveness to your concerns. Please write Alan Bleier at keruv@bethshalomwilmington.org or phone Roland Roth at the Beth Shalom office (302-654-4462) if you have new activities or new directions you’d like to see us consider.
